Monterrey, Mexico

Angel Santiago

Angel is from Baja California, Mexico and resides in Monterrey as a lifelong brother. He works as an accountant for The Servants of the Word in Monterrey and also serve with the youth program in Jesed (Covenant community in Monterrey).

Alejandro Santoscoy

Alejandro is a residential affiliate from Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. He is currently studying electronic engineering and is in his final year of university. He also serves with the local university outreach in Monterrey called MCU, and he grew up in the community in Mexicali, Verbum Dei. He likes to play sports, and football is his favorite. Some of his other hobbies are singing and playing the guitar.

Michell Ávila

Michell is a fully committed brother living in Monterrey, Mexico. He has a degree in Economics from the University of Tamaulipas. He is currently working with the university outreach MCU in Monterrey and helping the brothers with finance work.

Carlos Chon

Carlos is an affiliate-in-training who grew up in the Verbum Dei community in Mexicali. He encountered God and was baptized in the Spirit while in university studying Industrial Engineering, and his life has never been the same since. He traveled to Costa Rica in the summer of 2015 and loved it. He loves playing soccer and reading books about Christianity.

William Contreras

William is a lifelong committed brother from Ecuador. He studied systems analysis back in Cuenca, Ecuador and before that, he worked as a professional painter (of houses, not pictures). Now he is studying in Monterrey and is the director for a university outreach (MCU) in Apodaca, Mexico. He also loves music and plays the guitar, bass, and percussion.

David Mijares

David is a lifelong brother originally from Monterrey, México. He studied Electronic and Computers Engineering in the “Tecnologico of Monterrey”. In the last few years, David has been doing missionary work, mainly in Latin America, helping in the establishment of Christian communities and in the evangelization and care of young people. He continues to do so, on top of also promoting our vocation to live single for the Lord and training young men who are interested in our life in the Servants of the Word. He also serves as the regional elder for the brotherhood in Latin America. He likes to climb mountains and to run marathons, though he is getting a bit old for that.

David Huitron

David is a residential affiliate from Monterrey, Mexico. He is currently studying Business Administration in "Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León". He works with the youth in his local community in Monterrey called Jesed, of which he has been part of since he was young. Currently, his role with the youth program is to lead the staff team and train new leaders. He's played football for most of his life and has now also taken on running. He likes Urban art, such as break dancing and he also likes to draw.

Francisco Aguilar

Panch is a lifelong brother currently living in Monterrey, Mexico. He works part time for Kairos University Outreach Programs, such as Misión Católica Universitaria. He also helps run Vivamus our local "race with a cause".

Fernando Ayala

Fernando is a lifelong committed (2003) brother from Monterrey, Mexico. He has been serving the SOS youth in the IA Region since 1998. He also serves as a Steward, Trainer, Vocational Director and other responsibilities in our SW life. He serves in the local community (Jesed) as a Program Director for the Youth and the University District. He is involved in the Kairos work in the Mexico Zone as Director and responsible for youth events and Programs and Leadership training activities. His prayer is that many young people have a personal encounter with The Lord Jesus so they are able to make their decisions centered in the Lord and as his disciples.

Guillermo Camilo

Guillermo is a fully committed brother from the Dominican Republic. He graduated from the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo in 2013 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has worked with the local youth programs connected to our houses in Belfast and Monterrey. Currently he lives in our house in Monterrey. He likes outdoor activities, especially hiking and camping trips. He also enjoys cooking a nice meal for those who are nice to him.

Malaquias Garcia

Malaquías, originally from Mexicali, Baja California, is a lifelong committed brother living in Monterrey. He works for UCO (MCU) and serves the brothers as the house steward. He likes football, soccer, and all kinds of sports.

Martin Hidalgo

Martin is an affiliate-in-training from Quito, Ecuador where he met the community Jesús es el Señor. He has a degree in Digital Animation. This past year he was part of the GAP Program as well as living as a Residential Affiliate in our house in Monterrey. Martin is now in his first year of training with the Servants of the Word in Monterrey and he is working with the university outreach MCU in Apodaca. He likes to play tennis and ultimate frisbee.

Pepe Vásquez

Pepe is a lifelong committed brother who serves full time among young professionals in the Latin American Region. He does pastoral training, teaching, formation, conferences, retreats, and travel.

Pablo Madrigal

Pablo is an affiliate-in-training from San José, Costa Rica who is currently living in the house in Monterrey for training. He graduated from la Universidad de Costa Rica with a degree in Computer Science. He grew up in the Sword of the Spirit community Árbol de Vida and has participated in youth outreach with their high school and university programs. He enjoys roadtrips, hiking and having a good time with friends.

Ricardo Ibarra

Ricardo is a residential affiliate living in Monterrey. He grew up in Mexicali, Mexico where he was part of the Verbum Dei Community along with his family. Ricardo recently graduated with a degree in Physical Education and Sports from La Universidad Autónoma de Baja California where he had been serving in the university outreach Misión Católica Universitaria. He likes soccer, playing the guitar, and talking about or reading about God.

Rey David Morales

Rey David is an affiliate-in-training in Monterrey who hails from Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. He studied Administration while in university, but has many talents, including playing the guitar, running, and playing Ultimate Frisbee. He loves to spend his free time socializing, eating, and grilling any kind of meat.

San José, Costa Rica

Rodrigo Sett

Rodrigo (a.k.a Chino), is a lifelong committed brother who lives in our household in Costa Rica although he is a Guatemalan by birth. He mainly works with the local university outreach at Universidad de Costa Rica and does finances for the brothers (just for fun!). He enjoys prayer and sports.

Luis Alejandro Arce

Luis is a lifelong brother originally from Costa Rica. He studied Mass Media Communications with emphasis on Advertising. He has served in High School and University Outreaches in Costa Rica, Mexico and US. He is currently leading our Costa Rican house while finishing up his thesis through the Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit. He enjoys outdoor sports: swimming, biking, and running.

Luis Manuel Bravo

Luis Manuel Bravo, from Nicaragua, has been a lifelong brother of the Servants of the Word since August 1994. Luisma is one of the Elders of the brotherhood. He has been working in the new project of opening a new house of the Servants of the Word in Central America. In the last 3 years, he has been living in Honduras, Ecuador and Nicaragua. He currently resides in Costa Rica, serving as one of the coordinators of the Community Arbol de Vida and working in the development of mission work with the youth. He studied Public Accountancy in México.

Paulo Machado

Paulo is a lifelong committed brother from Brazil. He grew up in São José dos Campos (in the state of São Paulo) and studied Business Administration. He was a volunteer missionary for a year in Angola, Africa, and then joined the Servants of the Word in Monterrey, Mexico. When he was younger, Paulo worked as a butcher and therefore loves to cook meat. His specialty is steak on a skewer. He is the director for a university outreach (CEM) at the Community Fuente de Vida in Costa Rica. Like most Brazilians, he loves soccer.

Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA

Bruce Franson

Bruce is a lifelong committed brother who serves as the senior steward, responsible for the overall administration of the life of the brotherhood. He works at Servant Systems where he helps create a software for franchising businesses whose profits help support The Servants of the Word. Bruce is Lutheran and serves as an elder in his local congregation. He hails from Midland, Michigan. Cedric Tannous

Cedric is an affiliate-in-training from Lebanon. He studied civil engineering at "Université Saint Joseph" in Beirut. During that time, he was a member of the local university outreach, University Christian Outreach (UCO), and he also served and helped lead the local scouts group connected to the People of God, the community he was a part of. He also served for 3 years as a staff member for UCO in Belfast and with Youth Initiatives, a youth program founded by a member of the Servants of the Word. He is currently living in the International Formation House and working as the Assistant Administrator for the Servants of the Word. He enjoys playing a variety of sports including football, basketball, and volleyball.

Dan Keating

Dan currently helps with the formation and teaching in the Internation Formation House in Ann Arbor. He also serves on the teaching team for the Sword of the Spirit communities. In addition to that, he is a professor of theology at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit, Michigan where he teaches on Scripture, the Church Fathers, evangelization, and ecumenism.

Karl Codouni

Karl is an affiliate-in-training from the People of God community in Lebanon living in the International Formation House. Before that, he lived in London for 2 years where he served with the youth and the university outreach in London called Koinonia. He also did some work for the Sword of the Spirit and internal house work for the Servants of the Word. He graduated in May 2016 from the Lebanese American University with a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering. Before moving away from Lebanon, he was also serving the People of God community with outreach work.

Miguel Vargas

Miguel is a lifelong committed brother from Costa Rica. He is currently living in Ann Arbor, Michigan where he is leading the Madison St Household and studying theology at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit. Miguel studied Classical Philology at the University of Costa Rica and has spent many years doing youth outreach. He is also a member of the International Ecumenical Commission of the Sword of the Spirit.

Nico Angleys

Nico grew up in France, just outside Geneva, in the Alps. He made his lifelong commitment in 2003, whilst living in London. After 21 years of mission work with college students and 9 years as the overall UCO director, Nico has taken on leadership of the Servants of the Word International Formation Program in Ann Arbor. In May 2012 he completed his Masters in Theology at Sacred Heart Seminary, writing his thesis on the Lord's Day. Part of his heart remains in the mountains, which he returns to as often as he can. He is an amateur photographer who dabbles in wildlife and macro photography. He enjoys cooking a large feast on occasion as well... Peter Mayoros

Peter is an affiliate-in-training who grew up in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 2015 with a degree in Industrial & Operations Engineering. Peter served for a year in London working with the university outreach Koinonia and the youth outreach Youth:Link. When he returned to Ann Arbor, Peter continued serving in university outreach with University Christian Outreach. He is currently part of the International Formation Program in Ann Arbor and working as the Bookkeeper for the Servants of the Word. Peter loves to have conversations about life, watch and talk about sports, and draw.

Steven Maier

Steven Maier is a residential affiliate serving as a college missionary with University Christian Outreach in Ann Arbor. He met the brothers while he was a student at Michigan State University, where he graduated with a degree in Journalism in 2019. Originally from Chicago, Steven loves scripture, running, reading, writing and baseball (especially the Chicago Cubs).

Tony Sarkis

Tony is an affiliate-in-training from Lebanon living in the International Formation House where he helps with the groundskeeping. He studied there and earned a BBA in Banking and Finance while serving with the university outreach University Christian Outreach (UCO) and the People of God community there. For 3 years, he lived in Belfast serving with the UCO there and helping with house service.

William Cannon

Will is a fully committed brother. Originally from Norcross, Georgia, he moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 2008 to attend the University of Michigan where he graduated with a degree in Audio Engineering and Electrical Engineering. He now serves with UCO Ann Arbor as the chapter's Mission Director. With what remains of his time he fills it with playing music, running, and backpacking.

Chelsea, Michigan, USA

Don DeSmith

Don is a lifelong brother who lives in Chelsea. He grew up in Dundee, Michigan. Don works full time at Servant Systems, a software development company specializing in software for franchise systems. His hobbies include culture (specifically the effect of technology on culture), economics, politics, social justice issues and water skiing. His favorite authors are Jacques Ellul, Jacques Maritain, Christopher Dawson, Richard Stivers, and Friedrich von Hayek. His favorite groups are First Things magazine, Touchstone magazine, the Acton Institute (Grand Rapids, Michigan), the Ethics and Public Policy Center (D.C.), the Wall Street Journal (editorial page), the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture (University of Virginia) and the American Enterprise Institute. Dick LaCroix

Dick is one of the earliest brothers who made his lifelong commitment years ago. Dick now serves full time for the brotherhood as property manager for the brotherhood center. He is currently working to establish a private cemetery for the brothers, hopefully not to be needed for a good number of years yet. Dick grew up in Midland, Michigan, and enjoys running to keep in shape.

Gary Sacharski

Gary is a lifelong brother who lives in Chelsea, Michigan. He first began living with the brothers in 1973 after studying Forestry at the University of Michigan for 2 years. He worked as a carpenter and contractor until 1986, when he joined a group of brothers in Costa Rica, and lived there five years. He then returned to Michigan and began working for a civil engineering firm, and began studying toward a degree. He graduated in 1996 from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He has worked as a Civil Engineer since then.

Jamie Treadwell

Jamie is a lifelong committed brother who lives in our household in Chelsea. He works professionally as a fine artist and corporate/executive coach. He also brings his international experience in leadership into training and strategic development of Christian ministries. Larry Hunt

Larry is a lifelong brother who grew up in Detroit and now lives in Chelsea, Michigan. Larry works full time at Servant Systems, a software development company specializing in software for franchise systems. Martin Steinbereithner

Dr. Martin Steinbereithner is Viennese, currently residing in Chelsea, Michigan (USA). He is the director of Communications and Development for the Servants of the Word. Previously he worked for twenty years in campus ministry in North America, Lebanon and England and for over the last ten years with Christian communities in the Middle East, Poland, Russia, Belgium, Germany, Austria, France, the UK and Africa. Martin holds a doctorate in organizational behavior and non-profit management. He is a research associate of the Nonprofit Research Group at the Vienna University of Business and Economics and consults with various faith-based non-profit organizations. Stu Ferguson

Stu is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Chelsea and works full-time for The Servants of the Word. He currently oversees business operations in Michigan and is responsible for our finances, internationally. Stu was born and raised in Minnesota. When not in his office or away on business, he can oftentimes be found outside working, or even doing a bit of hunting.

Steven Paelicke

Steven Paelicke is a residential affiliate from Saline, Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in December 2016 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Steven decided to become an affiliate with the Servants of the Word while working for a small automotive company in the Metro Detroit area. He is currently working for that same company while living with the brothers in Chelsea. In his spare time, Steven enjoys reading, playing the piano, and learning more about other cultures.

Steve Clark

Steve is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Chelsea. He is the founder of the Servants of the Word. Ted Kennedy

Ted is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Chelsea, Michigan (just west of Ann Arbor). He leads the household at Island Lake Road. He is the North American regional controller of the brotherhood, and still dabbles in software development whenever he gets a chance. For fun, he teaches brothers how to handle their finances well and has developed software to help them do that. Detroit, Michigan, USA

Bryce Henny

Bryce Henny was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is the youngest of 3 sons. He studied education at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. He is starting his third year as the Program Director for YouthWorks-Detroit, and is currently living as an affiliate with the brothers in Detroit. He enjoys sports, working out, and traveling.

Brian LaLonde

Brian, originally from Essexville, Michigan and a University of Michigan graduate, made his lifelong commitment to The Servants of the Word in September, 2009. He served as mission director for University Christian Outreach in Lansing, MI from 2006-2012. Currently, he does computer programming with Servant Systems. You'll find him on wilderness adventures in the summer while leading the middle-school ministry Kairos Fellowship. Dave Quintana

Q is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Detroit. He is currently serving as the presiding elder of our brotherhood. He also does a lot of work helping young men consider SW life, and enjoys working with young people in Kairos throughout the world. He also enjoys running and hiking, and most other outdoor activities.

Ed Conlin

Ed is a lifelong committed brother. He serves the homeless, the mentally ill, and addicts of Detroit. In his spare time, he does freelance counseling for the Sword of the Spirit and loves worship and music.

Mark Whitters

Mark Whitters is a lifelong committed brother and one of the original members of the SW household in Detroit. He has lived there for over ten years. He commutes to Ypsilanti for his work in the Department of History and Philosophy at Eastern Michigan University. During the summers, he often volunteers for the Detroit Summer Outreach. His hobbies are jogging and cross-country skiing, languages, and (more) studying and writing.

Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

Noel Armando Delgadillo

Noel was born and raised in Miami, Florida. In 2006, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from Florida International University. He has been involved in student ministry ever since, living in Belfast, Ann Arbor, and Grand Rapids. Noel is a lifelong member of the brotherhood. Noel currently serves as the Chapter Director of University Christian Outreach at Grand Valley State University.

Brian Laba

Brian made his lifelong commitment in 2009. He lives in Grand Rapids where he is helping to lead the Light of Christ Community. He is currently studying at Western Michigan University to earn a master's degree in college counseling. He leads the SW household in Grand Rapids. He was born and raised in Rochester Hills, Michigan, has three lovely sisters, and attended the University of Michigan where he studied ecology and first met the brothers.

Luis Parrilla

Luis is a residential affiliate living in Grand Rapids, Michigan and studying Secondary Education with an emphasis in Social Studies and Biology at Grand Valley State University. He grew up in Miami, Florida as part of a Latin American Sword of the Spirit community called “La Nueva Jerusalen”. It was through the influence of those in the community that he met the Lord at a very young age. Luis loves to play guitar and spends his free time playing soccer, water polo, or climbing.

Mike Kramer

Mike is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is originally from Alliance, Nebraska. He has two undergraduate degrees from Chadron State College and a Master's in Education from Eastern Michigan University. He currently directs short-term mission trips for high school students and tutors high school students in a local high school. He is also The Servants of the Word events administrator. He enjoys playing harmonicas and traveling.

Nate Stoll

Nate is a residential affiliate from Lansing, Michigan who grew up in the Work of Christ Community. He recently graduated from Grand Valley State University with a degree in secondary education for social studies and Mathematics. This year he has started teaching in a school in Grand Rapids while living with the brothers there. In his free time, Nate enjoys backpacking, canoeing, and playing guitar.

Stan Mathay

Stan Mathay is a lifelong committed brother who lives in our house in Grand Rapids. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and also has a Master Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University. He has been a teacher most of his adult life, and has taught in elementary, high school, and college levels. He currently teaches mathematics part-time at Grand Rapids Community College and Physics at Davenport University in Grand Rapids. He spends his summer's helping to lead the Sword of the Spirit's regional youth program for early adolescents called Kairos Fellowship.

Lansing, Michigan, USA

Caleb Mattson

Caleb is a residential affiliate living in Lansing, Michigan. He connected with Sword of the Spirit and Servants of the Word through University Christian Outreach during college. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Michigan State University, he now serves as a full-time mission leader with UCO at Michigan State University and Lansing Community College. Caleb enjoys spending his free time immersed in literature, nature or conversation.

Dan Rinke

Dan is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Lansing. He is currently the financial controller for the North American region of the brotherhood. Dan is featured in the article, Brother, Accountant, Friend from the April 2012 issue of the SW Newsletter.

John Michael Hoyt

JM is an affiliate-in-training from Tempe, Arizona. He is living in our Lansing household where he is serving with the local UCO group. He studied building construction, Spanish and welding technology. After High School, with the encouragement of his parents, he took a GAP year with Kairos in Lansing and lived with us. During his GAP year, he was baptized in the spirit and heard the Lord speaking clearly to him about living all out for him. In his free time, you can find him playing the drums or in his woodshop making furniture for one of his friends.

Joseph Mathias

Joseph is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Ann Arbor, where he was also born and raised. He graduated from the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Michigan with a concentration in Russian. He currently serves in University Christian Outreach at Michigan State University, while pursuing a Master's degree in Theology at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit.

John Yocum

John is a lifelong committed brother from Jackson, Michigan. Having spent 15 years in the UK and 7 years in the Philippines, he returned to the US in 2011, where he serves as the regional elder for the Servants of The Word. He works with communities across the region and serves on the executive committee of the international teaching team for the Sword of The Spirit. John has a Doctorate in Theology from The University of Oxford. He has taught Theology at Oxford, at Loyola School of Theology in Manila and currently teaches at the Catholic Seminary in Detroit, Michigan.

Mike Shaughnessy

Mike is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Lansing. He works full time for the Sword of the Spirit as the Kairos International Director and as a Regional Missionary Coordinator. Manila, Philippines

Abyong Calo

Abyong is a lifelong committed brother, currently serving as household head of the Ipil household. He works for Ang Lingkod Ng Panginoon, the local community's nationwide outreach to single young professionals. Adrian Menezes

Adrian is a fully committed brother who currently lives in Manila. He has a degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Mumbai. He has spent time serving the high school youth program in the community in Manila and currently serves with the local university outreach Christ's Youth in Action (CYA). Adrian also helps develop young leaders and youth outreaches with the Sword of the Spirit communities in India.

Bart Leong

Bart is a residential affiliate living in Manila, Philippines. He grew up in Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon, the local Sword of the Spirit community in Manila. He has a degree in Entrepreneurship from De La Salle University - Manila. He currently serves as a student leader in the local university outreach Christ’s Youth in Action at his university. His hobbies include listening to 50's jazz music, weightlifting, taking long walks, and reading novels.

Carlo Fuerte

Carlo Fuerte is a residential affiliate living in Manila. Carlo graduated from the De La Salle - College of St. Benilde in 2018 where he studied Business Administration and Human Resource Management. Presently, he is pursuing his dream of studying Automotive Servicing at the Toyota Motor Philippines School of Technology. He also serves as the District Servant of the South University District of the local Sword of the Spirit community Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon. In his free time, Carlo enjoys learning more about photography, taking pictures of nature, and tinkering with cars.

Dale Arconado

Dale is a lifelong committed brother. He is from Bangued, Abra in the northern Island of the Philippines. He moved to Manila for schooling, eventually graduating from College of St. Benilde - De La Salle with a degree in Business Administration. He serves full-time in Christ’s Youth in Action, the local student ministry and is helping with our high-school and university programs. Dale enjoys playing chess and still plays pick up basketball games every Monday.

Dave O'Connor

Dave is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Detroit. He helps lead the community outreach in the city, and as part of this work, collaborates closely with Joshua Rock, the Director of YouthWorks-Detroit. He also has served as a teacher and administrator for Cornerstone Schools for more than fifteen years. He enjoys taking long walks, playing guitar, reading books, doing crossword puzzles and solving math problems. He is currently in the process of moving to Manila.

Francis Iturralde

Francis is an associate to the Brotherhood and serves as the house steward of the Ipil household. He currently works as administrator for the Brotherhood and does community-building work for the Asian Region of the Sword of the Spirit. He also serves as head of the worship ministry of the local community.

Joseph Uy

Joseph Uy is an affiliate-in-training in Manila who was born and raised in the Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon Community. He graduated from The University of the Philippines - Diliman with a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics. He is currently serving as a full-time staff worker for Christ's Youth in Action. In his spare time, Joseph is known as a skilled board game player.

Jake Tan

Jake Tan is an affiliate-in-training in Manila who grew up in the local Sword of the Spirit Community Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon. Jake graduated from the University of the Philippines - Manila in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Sciences. Presently, he has decided to use the next year serving in the local university outreach Christ’s Youth in Action as a staff worker prior to his potential pursuit for Medical School. He is a Football enthusiast and an avid player of Ultimate Frisbee.

Jake Yap

Jake is a lifelong committed brother. He finished his doctoral studies at the University of Oxford (UK) and presently works as professor of theology at the Jesuit-run Loyola School of Theology. He also serves as a coordinator in the local community, Ang Ligaya Ng Panginoon.

Joseph Piquero

Jopeng is a lifelong committed brother who serves as the Ipil household head. He also serves as the regional steward for the SW and currently heads the local Kairos program of the local SOS community. Jake Dela Cruz

Jake DC is a residential affiliate living in Manila. He is a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas - Manila with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. After passing the chemistry licensure exam, he decided to pursue missionary work. He is currently serving as a full-time staff worker for the university outreach Christ's Youth in Action. DC enjoys playing basketball and table tennis. He also loves studying chemistry in his free time.

Jerome Quiring

After spending some time doing mission in the US, JR is now back in the Philippines as a lifelong committed brother. He first got connected to the brotherhood as a student at the University of the Philippines Manila where he got his degree in Public Health. He continues to serve as a hub leader for Christ’s Youth in Action (the local university outreach). He oversees the evangelism program and leadership training for two main universities in Quezon City. On the side, he is also working for the high school program of the local community Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon (The Joy of the Lord).

Jim Orbe

Jim is a lifelong brother who serves as the local Brotherhood elder in Manila. He also serves as the Kairos Asia Director. Jim is featured in the article, Mr. Ako from the December 2009 issue of the SW newsletter.

John Keating

John has completed two terms as presiding elder of The Servants of the Word (SW) and has taken up residence in Manila. He serves as the regional elder for the Brotherhood in the Asian region. He continues as well to serve as vice president of the Sword of the Spirit (SOS), the international community to which the Brotherhood belongs.

Jojo Baquiano

Jojo "Jobaqs" Baquiano is a lifelong committed brother. He works as a full-time software programmer for CD Technologies Asia, Inc., a legal software development firm. He also serves as a pastoral leader for single men in the local SOS community.

Joseph Escarro

Joseph "Jok" Escarro is an affiliate-in-training in Manila and grew up in the local Sword of the Spirit community, Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon. Jok is a graduate of University of Santo Tomas in Manila and is a certified Industrial Engineer. After graduating, he served in the youth program of the community called Young Adults. He is currently serving as a full-time staff worker for the university outreach Christ’s Youth in Action.

Kenneth Carandang

Kenneth is a fully committed brother currently living in Manila. He is a graduate of the University of the Philippines and is a licensed Mechanical Engineer. He now serves in the university outreach Christ's Youth in Action as the leader of the Unified Manila Chapter - a chapter comprised of students from a cluster of universities in downtown Manila. Kenneth enjoys playing basketball and Ultimate Frisbee and going on food trips.

Peter Jess Legaspi

Mon is a lifelong committed brother. He is currently the national director for an extensive outreach to young professionals in Manila called Ang Lingkod Ng Panginoon and also serves as coordinator for the single men and women of the local community.

Belfast, Northern Ireland

Daniel Dunkl

Daniel is an affiliate-in-training from Vienna, Austria, living in our house in Belfast. He has a degree in electrical engineering and information technology from Technische Universität Wien. During his time studying in Vienna, he also served with students and young professionals, including Kairos, the family of youth and college outreaches connected to the Sword of the Spirit. Now, he is serving with UCO Belfast. Daniel has a strong heart for Christian unity and has been attracted to the Servants of the Word particularly for their ecumenical dimension. Daniel enjoys distance running, mountaineering, learning languages, and playing the piano.

Doug Smith

Doug is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Doug serves as the senior coordinator of Charis, an ecumenical Christian community in Northern Ireland. He has also served in Youth Initiatives, a cross-community youth ministry in Belfast, since 1992. He is currently the management support officer for the organization, and served as the chief officer of Youth Initiatives from 2003-2018. Doug grew up in Ohio and enjoys running and hiking around Ireland. He is featured in the article, Doug Smith – Brother & Director.

Tadhg Lynch

Tadhg is a lifelong committed brother from Dublin, Ireland where he studied English and History. He works for the local and regional student organization running retreats, programmes and mission trips. Tadhg enjoys playing football, reading, blue cheese, his Mum's brown bread, small pubs and pints of Guinness.

Paul Codouni

Paul is a fully committed brother from Lebanon. He's lived in a few different places and as a result he speaks three and a half languages. He's an accidental techie and is the project manager for Pray by Day. He now does student ministry and IT work while getting ready to move to Lebanon. He enjoys board games, sleeping in igloos, and climbing up rivers, as well as a good movie.

Philip Morrison

Phil Morrison is a lifelong committed brother who comes from Downpatrick, Northern Ireland. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland with a degree in Social Anthropology in 2011. He currently lives and works in Belfast, working with two student ministries; UCO and the Anglican and Methodist Chaplaincy at Queens University Belfast, where he also attends church. Phil has a focus on discipleship and building community amongst students. Amongst other things he enjoys playing the saxophone and following rugby and football.

Volodimir Bezulowsky

Andy Pettman

Andy is a lifelong committed brother who lives in London. Currently his work includes leading the Antioch Community as senior coordinator, supervising UCO London (Koinonia), leading the SW household in London, and developing some of our Protestant connections. Andy grew up in Guildford, England and made contact with the Servants of the Word via UCO when he came to London to study. As a brother Andy worked for BP and then for a small consulting company for a total of 19 years, whilst leading youth work as a volunteer, before beginning full time ministry in 2006. Andy is an Anglican and he is passionately committed to the ecumenical aspect of the Servants of the Word life.

Bruce Yocum

Bruce is a lifelong committed brother who lives in London, England. Bruce has been involved in charismatic renewal from its earliest years, and has served in the Sword of the Spirit for many years in North America, Europe and the Middle East, Latin America and the South Pacific. He was Presiding Elder of the Servants of the Word for thirteen years. In 1976 he wrote the book "Prophecy", which has been translated into at least nine languages.

Don Schwager

Don has been a lifelong member of the brotherhood since its beginning in 1971. He is the author of Daily Scripture, a daily Scripture meditation website, and editor for Living Bulwark, an online magazine for the Sword of the Spirit (Living Bulwark). He went to St. Paul Seminary in Saginaw, Michigan for six years (high school and two years of college) and completed his undergraduate degree in English and Fine Arts at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1970. He also studied at George Washington University and the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. for a couple of summers. Eroni Sotutu

Eroni is a lifelong committed brother from the Fiji Islands who is living in London. Eroni met The Servants of the Word while studying at the London School of Economics. His original plans to enter a diplomatic career (or related) for the Fiji government transformed into a career in ‘spiritual’ economics and Christian diplomacy in the SW. Eroni has served as an elder in the brotherhood and has looked after the formation of brothers in the UK and Lebanon. Eroni is featured in the article, A Man of Grace and Depth from the March 2010 issue of the SW newsletter.

Jean Pierre Fahd

JP is originally from Lebanon where he studied Computer and Communications Engineering with a minor in Mathematics. He made his lifelong commitment in September 2018 and currently lives in London. JP focuses on finance work for the brotherhood and the group of communities they are a part of. He is highly involved in Koinonia, a university outreach that the brothers are connected to in Central London. He also leads the youth programme in the community in London and does a bit of programming work. He enjoys reading, playing the guitar and a few other instruments, running and team sports (especially soccer).

Joe Fahd

Joe was born in Lebanon and grew up in the local Sword of the Spirit community there. He studied Biology with a view toward becoming a medical doctor like his father. Upon getting interested in the celibate life, he changed career tracks and began serving in university outreach, first in Lebanon, and since 2007 in London, England. He survived a potentially life-threatening accident in 2009, but is now fully recovered. He currently leads Koinonia, a student ministry in London helping university students explore community life. He also enjoys the outdoors and hosting people for a Lebanese dinner.

Karl Ghosn

Karl is an affiliate-in-training from Lebanon living in London. After getting his masters degree in Networking Security (Ethical Hacking), he moved to Northern Ireland to live with the brothers. He worked for two years with a software company making mobile apps, websites, and other software. He is currently working part time as well as doing outreach work with the community in London. He enjoys working in the house garden, and he enjoys all kinds of sports, especially going to the gym, basketball, and Ultimate Frisbee.

Ken Noecker

Ken is a lifelong committed brother, currently serving as the Regional Elder of the EME Region. He spent 25 years (1986 to 2011) as a member of the Asian Region of The Servants of the Word based in Manila, Philippines. Ken was born and raised in Nebraska. He completed his university studies in Minnesota and his graduate studies in the Philippines. In addition to his role in The Servants of the Word, Ken is also involved extensively in community building efforts in Asia as a missionary coordinator of The Sword of the Spirit. He is currently on sabbatical before moving to London.

Richard Perry

Richard is from Wales, made his lifelong commitment in 1992, and lives in our London household. He works quarter-time for the brotherhood as a central steward, and three-quarters-time for the Sword of the Spirit as the international executive secretary. That means a lot of time in an office, shuffling paper and counting pennies. As if that wasn’t enough fun, he also serves on a number of non-profit boards and diocesan finance committees. He studied accounting and finance at the London School of Economics, but now wishes he had studied history – how different life might have been...

Serge Saadeh

Serge is an affiliate-in-training from Lebanon who lives in London. After getting degrees in Pure Physics and Mechanical Engineering, he moved to London to live with the brothers. He's currently serving in many different capacities, including working with young professionals and university students and organizing a camp for middle-schoolers. He also makes sure our house stays clean and makes sure the finances are in order. Serge loves all types of sports, especially Ultimate Frisbee.

Serge Haddad

Serge is a residential affiliate living in the household in London. He was raised in the People of God community in Lebanon and received a degree in Computer and Communications Engineering from Notre Dame University in Beirut. He recently served in UCO–Beirut where he led a Men’s Household. He has also spent some time helping develop the Pray by Day iOS application. He is tech-savvy and enjoys playing sports.
