The Servants of the Word Safeguarding Commitment
The Servants of the Word brothers pledge to protect all minors and vulnerable adults. This commitment includes the formal investigation of any claims of improper behavior by any member of our Brotherhood, whether individually or collectively.
Our dedication to safeguarding is guided by our formal Safeguarding Policy, developed in partnership with Praesidium, a globally recognized authority in abuse prevention. This program includes:
- Comprehensive screening of all new applicants, including psychological evaluations.
- External Review Boards that advise on cases and on policy development.
- Regular safeguarding training for all members.
- Designated Safeguarding Officers in each region.
- A formal procedure for investigating any claims of abuse, ensuring the rights and privacy of all parties are protected and respected.
- Ongoing peer accountability among Brothers.
Our current program reflects extensive consultation with abuse prevention experts such as Praesidium, legal counsel, and a review of common practices from similar faith-based organizations.
We acknowledge that in the past, our brotherhood did not always have the level of awareness or structure around child protection that we hold today. We deeply regret any shortcomings and harm that may have resulted from this and sincerely ask for forgiveness from all those who have been negatively impacted in any way.
In light of this, we have strengthened our policies and practices for addressing any allegations of misconduct. This includes the establishment of Regional Review Boards and a continued commitment to vigilant monitoring, ongoing training, and the integration of evolving common practices in safeguarding.
At this time, there are no pending claims, inquiries, or cases under mediation or litigation. Our Database provides information on Servants of the Word historical safeguarding cases and their status.
If you or someone you know believes that a member of the Servants of the Word has engaged in the abuse of a minor, regardless of when, where, why or how long ago the alleged abuse occurred, we urge you to report such behavior immediately at the following link: Contacts.
