Eroni Sotutu made a lifelong commitment to the Servants of the Word in 1991.
In 2002, following a viral illness Eroni was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), sometimes referred to as Post-Viral Fatigue Syndrome. From then onward, Eroni experienced times of relative health and fruitfulness, punctuated by relapses of CFS which required time away from the common life of the Servants of the Word for recovery. When relapses occurred, living our common life in locations in which we had houses became more and more challenging for him. In attempting to assist his recovery, after a major relapse in 2014, Eroni moved to New Zealand in December 2018. There he has been caring for his parents, and since his father’s death in 2022, his mother. Eroni is still struggling with CFS.
After much discussion and prayer, we have concluded with Eroni that the best thing, given his on-going illness making it practically impossible for him to live our common life (and not for any other reasons) is for him to end his commitment to the Servants of the Word. This is effective as of November 2024. Please do pray for Eroni as he makes this change in his life.
