Abyong is a lifelong committed brother, currently serving as household head of the Ipil household. He works for Ang Lingkod Ng Panginoon, the local community's nationwide outreach to single young professionals. Adrian is an affiliate in training who currently lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He has a degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Mumbai. He has been serving the high school youth program at the community in Manila and now does the same in Michigan. He now works as a Book-Keeper with the Servants of the Word.
Ali David or Biboy Leong is an Affiliate in Training living in Manila. He was born into the local Sword of the Spirit community - Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon. He graduated from the De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde with a Philippine bachelor's degree in International Hospitality Management, and a French degree or Licence de Management du Tourisme, spécialité Hôtellerie Internationale. He went on a Mission Year right after graduating last July 2014, and is currently serving as a full-time staffer in the local university outreach, Christ's Youth in Action.
Dale is a lifelong committed brother. He is from Bangued, Abra in the northern Island of the Philippines. He moved to Manila for schooling, eventually graduating from College of St. Benilde - De La Salle with a degree in Business Administration. He serves full-time in Christ’s Youth in Action, the local student ministry and is helping with our high-school and university programs. Dale enjoys playing chess and still plays pick up basketball games every Monday.
Francis is an associate to the Brotherhood and serves as the house steward of the Ipil household. He currently works as administrator for the Brotherhood and does community-building work for the Asian Region of the Sword of the Spirit. He also serves as head of the worship ministry of the local community.
Gab is an affiliate in training. He was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. He graduated last May 2016 from the De La Salle University of Dasmarinas with a Philippine bachelor's degree in entrepreneurship. He's currently serving as a part time staffer in the local university outreach program, Christ's Youth in Action and a part time administrative staff for the Institute for Pastoral Development. He loves to hike, play sports, sing and play the guitar.
Jake is a lifelong committed brother. He finished his doctoral studies at the University of Oxford (UK) and presently works as professor of theology at the Jesuit-run Loyola School of Theology. He also serves as a coordinator in the local community, Ang Ligaya Ng Panginoon.
Jopeng is a lifelong committed brother who serves as the Ipil household head. He also serves as the regional steward for the SW and currently heads the local Kairos program of the local SOS community. After finishing formation in the US, JR is now back in the Philippines as a fully committed brother. He first got connected to the brotherhood as a student at the University of the Philippines Manila where he got his degree in Public Health. He continues to serve as a hub leader for Christ’s Youth in Action (our local university outreach). He oversees the evangelism program and leadership training for two main universities in Quezon City. On the side, he is also working for the high school program of the local community Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon (The Joy of the Lord).
Jim is a lifelong brother who serves as the local Brotherhood elder in Manila. He also heads the local youth ministry for university students (CYA). Jim is featured in the article, Mr. Ako from the December 2009 issue of the SW newsletter.
John has completed two terms as presiding elder of The Servants of the Word (SW) and has taken up residence in Manila. He serves as the regional elder for the Brotherhood in the Asian region. He continues as well to serve as vice president of the Sword of the Spirit (SOS), the international community to which the Brotherhood belongs.
Jojo is a lifelong committed brother. He works as a full-time software programmer for CD Technologies Asia, Inc., a legal software development firm. He also serves as a pastoral leader for single men in the local SOS community.
Kenneth is an affiliate in training currently living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is a graduate of the University of the Philippines and is a licensed Mechanical Engineer. He now serves as the assistant administrator for the brotherhood.
Peter is a lifelong committed brother who works full-time for CYA as senior staff. He is also a senior leader for the University District of the local SOS community. Mon is a lifelong committed brother. He is currently the national director for Ang Lingkod Ng Panginoon and also serves as coordinator for the single men and women of the local community.
Ryan is a Residential Affiliate of the Servants of the Word in Manila. He was born and raised in the Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon Community, the Sword of the Spirit community in Manila. He finished his Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education Major in Religious Education at the University of Santo Tomas, where he currently serves as a full-time staffer for Christ's Youth in Action.
Andy is a lifelong committed brother who lives in London. Currently his work includes leading the Antioch Community as senior coordinator, supervising UCO London (Koinonia), leading the SW household in London, and developing some of our Protestant connections. Andy grew up in Guildford, England and made contact with the Servants of the Word via UCO when he came to London to study. As a brother Andy worked for BP and then for a small consulting company for a total of 19 years, whilst leading youth work as a volunteer, before beginning full time ministry in 2006. Andy is an Anglican and he is passionately committed to the ecumenical aspect of the Servants of the Word life.
Stephen studied music at the University of Cambridge, and is living as a residential affiliate in London. He works half-time for Koinonia at the University of London, and is also doing some freelance singing around London. Bruce is a lifelong committed brother who lives in London, England. Bruce has been involved in charismatic renewal from its earliest years, and has served in the Sword of the Spirit for many years in North America, Europe and the Middle East, Latin America and the South Pacific. He was Presiding Elder of the Servants of the Word for thirteen years in 1976 he published the book "Prophecy" which has been translated into at least nine languages.
Carl, who is in his second year of training, is originally from Bikfaya, Lebanon. He studied computer science at the American University of Beirut. He worked as a software developer at Servant Systems for two years. He now serves with the Christian student outreach in London and does some programming work for the international community (Sword of the Spirit). He was part of the Christian student outreach in Lebanon called UCO, where he got acquainted with the Servants of the Word. He enjoys reading, and playing soccer and classical guitar.
Michael is entering his fourth and final year of Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College London. He is involved in Koinonia, the university outreach in London, and will be leading one of their households this year where he will live as a non-residential affiliate. He has also had experience working as a software developer. He has been on mission in Mumbai and Belfast as well as his home town of London. He enjoys reading, sports, music and technology.
Don has been a lifelong member of the brotherhood since its beginning in 1971. He is the author of Daily Scripture, a daily Scripture meditation website, and editor for Living Bulwark, an online magazine for the Sword of the Spirit (Living Bulwark). He went to St. Paul Seminary in Saginaw, Michigan for six years (high school and two years of college) and completed his undergraduate degree in English and Fine Arts at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1970. He also studied at George Washington University and the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. for a couple of summers. Eroni is a lifelong committed brother from the Fiji Islands. Eroni met The Servants of the Word while studying at the London School of Economics. His original plans to enter a diplomatic career (or related) for the Fiji government transformed into a career in ‘spiritual’ economics and Christian diplomacy in the SW. Eroni has served as an elder in the brotherhood and has looked after the formation of brothers in the UK and Lebanon. Starting October he is on medical leave in New Zealand. JP is originally from Lebanon where he studied Computer and Communications Engineering with a minor in Mathematics. He made his full commitment in September 2015 and currently lives in London where he does quite a bit of finance work for the brotherhood and the group of communities they are a part of. He is highly involved in Koinonia, a university outreach where the brothers are connected to in Central London. He also does a bit of programming work and runs sessions on Christian apologetics for high school students. He enjoys reading, playing the guitar and a few other instruments, running and team sports (especially soccer).
Joe was born in Lebanon and grew up in the local Sword of the Spirit community there. He studied Biology with a view toward becoming a medical doctor like his father. Upon getting interested in the celibate life, he changed career tracks and began serving in university outreach, first in Lebanon, and since 2007 in London, England. He survived a potentially life-threatening accident in 2009, but is now fully recovered. He currently leads Koinonia, a student ministry in London helping university students explore community life. He also enjoys the outdoors and hosting people for a Lebanese dinner.
Karl is from the People of God community in Lebanon, and is currently living in the Servants of the Word house in Lansing, where he serves and works as a Software Developer at the Servants of the Word software company called Servant Systems. He graduated in May 2016 from the Lebanese American University with a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering. Before moving to Lansing, he was also serving his community back in Lebanon with outreach work.
Richard is from Wales, made his lifelong commitment in 1992, and lives in our London household. He works quarter-time for the brotherhood as a central steward, and three-quarters-time for the Sword of the Spirit as the international executive secretary. That means a lot of time in an office, shuffling paper and counting pennies. As if that wasn’t enough fun, he also serves on a number of non-profit boards and diocesan finance committees. He studied accounting and finance at the London School of Economics, but now wishes he had studied history – how different life might have been...
Angel is from Baja California, Mexico and resides in Monterrey as a lifelong brother. He works as an accountant for The Servants of the Word in Monterrey and also serve with the youth program in Jesed (Covenant community in Monterrey).
William is a fully committed brother from Ecuador. He studied systems analysis back in Cuenca, Ecuador and before that, he worked as a professional painter (of houses, not pictures). He also loves music and plays the guitar, bass, and percussion.
David is a lifelong brother originally from Monterrey, México. He studied Electronic and Computers Engineering in the “Tecnologico of Monterrey”. In the last few years, David has been doing missionary work, mainly in Latin America, helping in the establishment of Christian communities and in the evangelization and care of young people. He continues to do so, on top of also promoting our vocation to live single for the Lord and training young men who are interested in our life in the Servants of the Word. He also serves as the regional elder for the brotherhood in Latin America. He likes to climb mountains and to run marathons, though he is getting a bit old for that.
Panch is a lifelong brother currently living in Monterrey, Mexico. He works part time for Kairos University Outreach Programs, such as Misión Católica Universitaria. He also helps run Vivamus our local "race with a cause".
Fernando is a lifelong committed (2003) brother from Monterrey, Mexico. He has been serving the SOS youth in the IA Region since 1998. He also serves as a Steward, Trainer, Vocational Director and other responsibilities in our SW life. He serves in the local community (Jesed) as a Program Director for the Youth and the University District. He is involved in the Kairos work in the Mexico Zone as Director and responsible for youth events and Programs and Leadership training activities. His prayer is that many young people have a personal encounter with The Lord Jesus so they are able to make their decisions centered in the Lord and as his disciples.
José Daniel is an Affiliate in training from Managua, Nicaragua living in Monterrey, Mexico. He has a degree on Management and Business Administration. He worked in his local commuinity (Ciudad de Dios/City of God) with the teenagers program during his university studies, now he works for UCO (MCU) in Monterrey. He likes to play soccer, guitar, roadtrips and have a good time with his friends, family, brothers and community members.
Malaquías, originally from Mexicali, Baja California, is a lifelong committed brother living in Monterrey. He works for UCO (MCU) and serves the brothers as the house steward. He likes football, soccer, and all kinds of sports.
Pepe serves full time among young professionals in the Latin American Region. He does pastoral training, teaching, formation, conferences, retreats, and travel.
Michell is an Affiliate in training living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He has a degree in Economics from the University of Tamaulipas. He has been serving the high school youth program at the community in Monterrey.
Bruce serves as the senior steward, responsible for the overall administration of the life of the brotherhood. He works at Servant Systems (a software for franchising business whose profits help support The Servants of the Word). Bruce is Lutheran and serves as an elder in his local congregation. David Dolsen is an affiliate in training who was raised in a Lutheran family in Saline, Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Computer Science in 2015. After graduating, David spent a year in the Philippines reaching out to college students with Christ's Youth in Action. David moved back to Ann Arbor in 2016 where he is currently working with University Christian Outreach.
Emmanuel is an Affiliate in training living in Monterrey. He worked in his local community (Incienso de Dios) with the teenagers program, and after with the university outreach during his university studies, now he works for UCO (MCU) in Monterrey. He has a degree in Mechatronics Engineering.
Erick is an Affiliate in training living in Monterrey, where he is originally from. In school he studied Marketing. His two main jobs are in "Misión Católica Universitaria" (University Outreach) and the VIVAMUS race. He likes to play soccer and music, particularly the is saxophone.
Guillermo is from Dominican Republic. He graduated from the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo in 2013 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Has worked with the local youth programs of our house in Belfast and Monterrey. Currently he lives in the International Formation House in Ann Arbor and works as the groundskeeper for our Brotherhood Center in Chelsea. He likes outdoor activities, specially hiking and camping trips. He also enjoys cooking a nice meal for those who are nice to him.
John is from Jackson, Michigan. Having spent 15 years in the UK and 7 years in the Philippines, he returned to the US in 2011, where he serves as the regional elder for the Servants of The Word and leads the international formation household in Ann Arbor. He is a coordinator in local community, works with communities across the region and serves on the executive committee of the international teaching team for the Sword of The Spirit. John has a Doctorate in Theology from The University of Oxford. He has taught Theology at Oxford, at Loyola School of Theology in Manila and currently teaches at the Catholic Seminary in Detroit, Michigan.
Luis is a lifelong brother originally from Costa Rica. There he studied Mass Media Communications with emphasis on Advertising. He has served in High School and University Outreaches in Costa Rica, Mexico and US. He is currently receiving training to become a trainer in the Brotherhood. He enjoys outdoor sports: swimming, biking, and running.
Nico grew up in France, just outside Geneva, in the Alps. He made his lifelong commitment in 2003, whilst living in London. After 21 years of mission work with college students and 9 years as the overall UCO director, Nico will focus his service on leading the SW international formation program in Ann Arbor, starting in the fall of 2017. In May 2012 he completed his Masters in Theology at Sacred Heart Seminary, writing his thesis on the Lord's Day. Part of his heart remains in the mountains, which he returns to as often as he can. Paul is an affiliate in training from Lebanon. He grew up in New Jersey and moved to Lebanon with his family when he was 12. He became an affiliate while studying Civil Engineering at the American University of Beirut. Paul then spent a year with the brothers in Monterrey, and was an affiliate in training for a couple of years in Belfast. He’s currently part of the International Formation Household in Ann Arbor, serving with Kairos North America and at the Brotherhood Center. Will is an affiliate in his second year of formation. Originally from Norcross, Georgia, he moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 2008 to attend the University of Michigan where he graduated with a degree in Audio Engineering and Electrical Engineering. This year, he serves as the assistant for both the illustrious Brotherhood Communications Office and the expansive Servants of the Word Library. He also works on the UCO Ann Arbor staff team. With what remains of his time he fills with playing music, running, and backpacking.
Noel was born and raised in Miami, Florida. In 2006, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from Florida International University. He has been involved in student ministry ever since, living in Belfast, Ann Arbor, and Grand Rapids. Noel is a lifelong member of the brotherhood. Noel currently serves as the Chapter Director of University Christian Outreach at Grand Valley State University.
Brian made his lifelong commitment in 2009. He lives in Grand Rapids where he is the local mission supervisor for the local University Christian Outreach. He is also helping to lead a new community called the Community Living Experiment in Grand Rapids. He provides some outside support for the UCO chapter in Pittsburgh and leads the SW household in Grand Rapids. He was born and raised in Rochester, Michigan, has three lovely sisters, and attended the University of Michigan where he studied ecology.
Mike is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is originally from Alliance, Nebraska. He has two undergraduate degrees from Chadron State College and a Master's in Education from Eastern Michigan University. He currently directs short-term mission trips for high school students and tutors high school students in a local high school. He is also The Servants of the Word events administrator. He enjoys playing harmonicas and traveling.
Nathan is an affiliate and is currently living at the UCO men's household in Grand rapids . He is studying to be a High school teacher in Social Studies and Math at Grand Valley State University. He is an active member of UCO, teaches swim lessons, and works for a online school as a virtual mentor.
Stan Mathay is a lifelong committed brother who lives in our house in Grand Rapids. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and also has a Master Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University. He has been a teacher most of his adult life, and has taught in elementary, high school, and college levels. He currently teaches mathematics part-time at Grand Rapids Community College and Physics at Davenport University in Grand Rapids. He spends his summer's helping to lead the Sword of the Spirit's regional youth program for early adolescents called Kairos Fellowship.
Brian, originally from Essexville, Michigan and a University of Michigan graduate, made his lifelong commitment to The Servants of the Word in September, 2009. He served as mission director for University Christian Outreach in Lansing, MI from 2006-2012. Currently, he does computer programming with Servant Systems. Dave is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Detroit. He helps lead the community outreach in the city, and as part of this work, collaborates closely with Joshua Rock, the Director of YouthWorks-Detroit. He also has served as a teacher and administrator for Cornerstone Schools for more than fifteen years. He enjoys taking long walks, playing guitar, reading books, doing crossword puzzles and solving math problems.
Ed is a lifelong committed brother who works as a chaplain for the Capuchin order in their Franciscan ministry to the poor. He serves the homeless, the mentally ill, and addicts of Detroit. In his spare time, he does freelance counseling for the Sword of the Spirit and loves worship and music.
Mark Whitters is a lifelong committed brother and one of the original members of the SW household in Detroit. He has lived there for over ten years. He commutes to Ypsilanti for his work in the Department of History and Philosophy at Eastern Michigan University. During the summers, he often volunteers for the Detroit Summer Outreach. His hobbies are jogging and cross-country skiing, languages, and (more) studying and writing.
Cedric is from Lebanon and studied civil engineering for the last five years while a member of UCO. He is now a "UCO Belfast" staff member and will also be working with Youth Initiative (YI).
Doug is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Belfast. He is the director of Youth Initiatives, a cross-community youth ministry running 10 outreach youth programs in Northern Ireland. Doug is also a coordinator in Charis, an ecumenical Christian community in Northern Ireland. Originally from Ohio, Doug is now entering his 21st year serving in Belfast and enjoys running and hiking around Ireland. Q is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Belfast. He is currently serving as the regional elder for SW--EME (Europe and the Middle East) and also works extensively in the Sword of the Spirit communities in that part of the world. He also does a lot of work helping young men consider SW life, and enjoys working with young people in Kairos throughout the world. He also enjoys running and hiking, and most other outdoor activities.
Tadhg is a lifelong committed brother from Dublin, Ireland where he studied English and History. He works for the local and regional student organization running retreats, programmes and mission trips. Tadhg enjoys playing football, reading, blue cheese, his Mum's brown bread, small pubs and pints of Guinness.
Phil Morrison is a fully committed brother who comes from Downpatrick, Northern Ireland. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland with a degree in Social Anthropology in 2011. He currently lives and works in Belfast, working with two student ministries; UCO and the Anglican and Methodist Chaplaincy at Queens University Belfast, where he also attends church. Phil has a focus on discipleship and building community amongst students. Amongst other things he enjoys playing the saxophone and following rugby and football.
Tony is from Lebanon. He studied there and earned a BBA in Banking and Finance while serving with UCO and the people of God community there. He is currently living in a SW Household in Belfast doing some cooking and working mainly with UCO.

Rodrigo (a.k.a Chino), is a lifelong committed brother who lives in our household in Costa Rica although he is a Guatemalan by birth. He mainly works with the local university outreach at Universidad de Costa Rica and does finances for the brothers (just for fun!). He enjoys prayer and sports.
Luis Manuel Bravo, from Nicaragua, has been a lifelong brother of the Servants of the Word since August 1994. Luisma is one of the Elders of the brotherhood. He has been working in the new project of opening a new house of the Servants of the Word in Central America. In the last 3 years, he has been living in Honduras, Ecuador and Nicaragua. He currently resides in Costa Rica, serving as one of the coordinators of the Community Arbol de Vida and working in the development of mission work with the youth. He studied Public Accountancy in México.
Miguel is a lifelong committed brother from Costa Rica. He works with the high school youth and is constantly doing translation service for the Ibero-American Region of The Sword of the Spirit.
Paulo is a fully committed brother from Brazil. He grew up in São Paulo and studied Business Administration. He was a volunteer missionary for a year in Angola, Africa, and then joined the Servants of the Word in Monterrey, Mexico. During his youth, Paulo worked as a butcher and therefore loves to cook meat. His specialty is steak on a skewer. Like most Brazilians, he loves to play soccer.
Don is a lifelong brother who lives in Chelsea. He grew up in Dundee, Michigan. Don works full time at Servant Systems, a software development company specializing in software for franchise systems. His hobbies include culture (specifically the effect of technology on culture), economics, politics, social justice issues and water skiing. His favorite authors are Jacques Ellul, Jacques Maritain, Christopher Dawson, Richard Stivers, and Friedrich von Hayek. Dick is one of the earliest brothers who made his lifelong commitment years ago. Dick now serves full time for the brotherhood as property manager for the brotherhood center. He is currently working to establish a private cemetery for the brothers, hopefully not to be needed for a good number of years yet. Dick grew up in Midland, Michigan, and enjoys running to keep in shape.
Gary is a lifelong brother who lives in Chelsea, Michigan. He first began living with the brothers in 1973 after studying Forestry at the University of Michigan for 2 years. He worked as a carpenter and contractor until 1986, when he joined a group of brothers in Costa Rica, and lived there five years. He then returned to Michigan and began working for a civil engineering firm, and began studying toward a degree. He graduated in 1996 from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He has worked as a Civil Engineer since then.
Jamie is a lifelong committed brother who lives in our household in Chelsea. He works professionally as a fine artist and corporate/executive coach. He also brings his international experience in leadership into training and strategic development of Christian ministries. He spent 25 years (1986 to 2011) as a member of the Asian Region of The Servants of the Word based in Manila, Philippines. Ken was born and raised in Nebraska. He completed his university studies in Minnesota and his graduate studies in the Philippines. In addition to his role in The Servants of the Word, Ken is also involved extensively in community building efforts in Asia as a missionary coordinator of The Sword of the Spirit.
Larry is a lifelong brother who grew up in Detroit and now lives in Chelsea, Michigan. Larry works full time at Servant Systems, a software development company specializing in software for franchise systems. His hobbies include birding, stargazing (when it is not too cold), astronomy, and genealogy research.
Dr. Martin Steinbereithner is Viennese, currently residing in Chelsea, Michigan (USA). He is the director of Communications and Development for the Servants of the Word. Previously he worked for twenty years in campus ministry in North America, Lebanon and England and for over the last ten years with Christian communities in the Middle East, Poland, Russia, Belgium, Germany, Austria, France, the UK and Africa. Martin holds a doctorate in organizational behavior and non-profit management. He is a research associate of the Nonprofit Research Group at the Vienna University of Business and Economics and consults with various faith-based non-profit organizations. Stu is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Chelsea and works full-time for The Servants of the Word. He currently oversees business operations in Michigan and is responsible for our finances, internationally. Stu was born and raised in Minnesota. When not in his office or away on business, he can oftentimes be found outside working, or even doing a bit of hunting.
Steve is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Chelsea. He is the founder of the Servants of the Word. Ted is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Chelsea, Michigan (just west of Ann Arbor). He leads the household at Island Lake Road. He is the North American regional controller of the brotherhood, and still dabbles in software development whenever he gets a chance. For fun, he teaches brothers how to handle their finances well and has developed software to help them do that. Dan currently heads the household in Lansing and serves on the teaching team for the Sword of the Spirit communities. He is also a professor of theology at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit, Michigan where he teaches on Scripture, the Church Fathers, evangelization, and ecumenism.

Joseph is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Ann Arbor, where he was also born and raised. He graduated from the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Michigan with a concentration in Russian. He currently serves in University Christian Outreach at the University of Michigan, while pursuing a Master's degree in Theology at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit.
Mike is a lifelong committed brother who lives in Lansing. He works full time for the Sword of the Spirit as the Kairos International Director and as a Regional Missionary Coordinator.
